HP/Hewlett Packard/Agilent 5517B Laser Head/Transducer

Excellent for: On-Demand Use, Testing, Demonstration, Education, and Research

These 5517B lasers are of relatively recent vintage (2003-2006 tube) and are in very good functional and cosmetic condition with decent output power (250-500+ µW depending on specific laser) and a clean REF signal. Even the lowest of these is well above the HP/Agilent minimum spec of 180 µW. They have been tested in a monitored interferometer setup for at least 8 hours.

IMPORTANT: However, note that the REF/Split frequency is between 2.5 and 2.9 MHz, which is slightly beyond the HP/Agilent specifications for the 5517B (1.9 to 2.4 MHz), and squarely in the range of the 5517C (2.4-3.0 MHz), and REF tends to increase with use. For most applications, this is of no consequence. But some machines like semiconductor steppers may flag an error or behave incorrectly if the REF frequency is out of spec. My guess is that these lasers were removed from service for this reason despite having high output power and being in otherwise excellent condition.

These 5517B lasers would be ideal as economical replacements or spares for a machine that is turned on only when required, and for test, demo, education, or research purposes. But I would not recommend them for a critical application run 24/7 such as a wafer fab for octuple-core next generation CPUs. Since the REF frequency is within the 5517C range, they could also stand in for a 5517C.

For an additional $175, I will adjust the REF frequency to be near the bottom of the spec'd range of 1.9 to 2.4 MHz for the 5517B. This is not a fountain of youth, but will enable the laser to meet all HP/Agilent specifications for the 5517B and thus be fully compatible with any machine using a 5517B.

Sample Photos - All the lasers are in the same excellent condition.

Please note that these lasers have the gold one-piece metal shroud for a cover and there is no shutter wheel as it was removed in the original application. Other case styles may be available. :) (The cover and front plate can always be transferred from your defective laser if desired.) Standard metal feet are optional but will be included upon request.
